She is interested in tourism as a driver of sustainable, grassroots economic growth, especially in post-conflict zones and other fragile economies, and prides herself in effectively implementing commercially viable programmes using public sector institutions.

Communications are an essential part of any development strategy, and Sophie has a strong and respected voice in the international media. Her articles have appeared in numerous publications such as the Financial Times, the Sunday Telegraph, and Newsweek, and she is the author of five Bradt Travel Guides, including the first guidebook to South Sudan.
